Cook County Treasurer Hosts Reception for Mexican Independence Day

The public is invited to the gathering at 118 N. Clark Street, Room 112, starting at noon. Beyond the musical program, the Treasurer’s Office will present Certificates of Excellence to several community leaders who have shaped the region’s social and economic landscape. Among those recognized are Morton High School music director Andres Cervantes, La Cremeria la Ordena president Nazario Perez, and the co-founders of the Necalli Cultural Movement, including Gabriela Flores and Amelia Gradilla.

This observance aligns with the annual commemoration of the Grito de Dolores, which marks the start of Mexico’s 1810 struggle for independence from Spanish colonial rule. By highlighting these historical roots alongside modern achievements, the Treasurer aims to underscore the influence of Mexican American entrepreneurship and civic engagement within Cook County. The event serves as a platform to celebrate both the enduring national pride of Mexico and the specific impact of the local community.
