Joining McCarthy is Clive Owen, who takes on the role of John Ramsey. The series revisits the 1996 discovery of six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey, whose body was found in the basement of her Boulder, Colorado home. Scheduled for a December 10, 2026 premiere—nearly three decades after the tragedy—the project features an ensemble cast including Garrett Hedlund, Alison Pill, and Shea Whigham.
McCarthy, previously nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Can You Ever Forgive Me?, described the project as a rewarding yet difficult undertaking. She noted that the production aims to restore a sense of humanity to the family, who were long treated as subjects of a media "blood sport" following the murder. While the Boulder Police Department initially focused on the parents as suspects, a 1999 grand jury indictment was never signed, and the family was officially cleared in 2008 after DNA evidence pointed toward an unknown male. The case remains open, with local authorities still reviewing new leads.
