Waitrose extends Trust Retail partnership through 2031

Waitrose has formally extended its strategic partnership with Trust Retail for an additional five years, securing the inventory management provider’s role through November 2031. This commitment arrives as the supermarket chain prepares to accelerate the deployment of real-time stock tracking technology across its entire store network.

The inventory system, which replaced traditional batch-update processes, provides store partners with immediate visibility into stock levels via handheld devices. This transition allows for more precise replenishment and markdown strategies by ensuring that transaction data is reflected across all accounting systems in real time. Following a successful trial that began in March 2026, the technology is currently operational in eight locations.

A broader rollout is slated for late September, targeting approximately 125 stores by the end of the year. Waitrose expects the remainder of its estate to be fully integrated by March 2027. According to Stuart Gibbon, Product Lead for the Stock & End-to-end Programme, this technological continuity is essential for improving internal efficiency and enhancing the service provided to customers throughout the trading day.
