Tom Watson Named President of Cherokee Federal

Watson arrives at the Tulsa-based organization following a seven-year stint at Serco, where he most recently served as CEO of its $2 billion North American business. During his tenure there, he managed 10,000 employees and oversaw the integration of strategic acquisitions across defense and civilian markets. His professional history also includes a 22-year career at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), where he eventually led the Navy and Marine Corps Business Unit. His early professional foundation was built during six years of active duty in the U.S. Navy as an electronics technician.

Chuck Garrett, CEO of Cherokee Nation Businesses, cited Watson’s leadership style and commitment to mission-driven growth as the primary drivers for the appointment. Based in the Washington, D.C. area, Watson will bridge the gap between federal agencies and the tribal business operations in Oklahoma. For the incoming president, the move represents a shift toward a model where corporate success directly funds services for Cherokee Nation citizens, a mission he described as the primary motivation for joining the firm.
