The lawsuit, Yappi v. Wix.com Ltd., et al., alleges that the web development platform misled shareholders regarding the financial health of its core business. Plaintiffs claim Wix overstated the competitiveness of its AI initiatives—specifically the Base44 and Harmony tools—while failing to disclose the ballooning costs associated with their development and marketing. By May 2026, those expenditures drove a 46% year-over-year increase in operating expenses, causing the company's non-GAAP operating margin to crater from 21% to 5%.
Management eventually acknowledged during a May 2026 earnings call that the Harmony platform suffered from missing capabilities and development delays, leaving professional users to defect to competing software. This admission triggered a selloff that erased more than $1.1 billion in market capitalization. Hagens Berman, the firm leading the investigation, is now reviewing whether Wix intentionally obscured the negative impact these AI-focused initiatives had on its bottom line. Investors who suffered significant losses are encouraged to contact the firm before the court-mandated deadline to participate in the case.
