GAC AION UT Secures Top Honors at 2026 Torino Automotive Design Awards

The AION UT, an electric hatchback crafted by GAC’s Milan studio, captured the Best Exterior Design prize at the 2026 Torino Automotive Design Award. The accolade, presented during the Salone Auto Torino, highlights the vehicle’s departure from ornamental styling in favor of a cohesive, silhouette-focused aesthetic designed for contemporary urban environments.

Stéphane Janin, head of the GAC Milan Design Studio, steered the project toward longevity rather than transient trends. By stripping away extraneous decorative elements, the team aimed to avoid a sterile look, instead favoring a balance between functional utility and distinct character. This design philosophy is matched by a 2,750 mm wheelbase, which maximizes cabin space within a compact frame, and a WLTP-rated range of 430 km to support daily commuting requirements.

Beyond its visual credentials, the AION UT represents a strategic shift in GAC’s manufacturing footprint. The vehicles are assembled at the Magna facility in Graz, Austria, a move intended to bolster supply chain resilience across the continent. Since its initial debut in Milan this past March, the model has rolled out across several European markets, including the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Poland, and Greece, with further regional expansion expected in the coming months.
