Inquiry by Design Launches Print-Centric ELA Curriculum for California

Developed specifically to align with the state’s ELA/ELD Framework, the curriculum emphasizes complete literary works over fragmented digital excerpts. By prioritizing sustained reading and physical text annotation, the materials aim to foster deeper engagement in grades 6–8. A state review committee has already unanimously recommended the program for adoption, citing its cohesive approach to writing, discussion, and contextual grammar.

For English Language Learners, the curriculum embeds specific sentence frames and language structures directly into the lesson flow. CEO Nick Resnick noted that the design intentionally avoids the fragmented nature of modern digital platforms, focusing instead on connected ideas and human-centered instruction. Teachers can now access sample units and alignment documentation through the company’s portal as districts begin their local review and pilot processes.
