Amnesty International Cites Potential War Crimes in Tehran Attacks

Between March 1 and March 13, coalition airstrikes hit residential areas in Resalat, Niloufar, and Javadieh, killing at least 41 civilians. While these strikes targeted police stations and military facilities, Amnesty International reports that the surrounding civilian infrastructure, including homes and businesses, suffered extensive damage. Agnès Callamard, secretary general of the organization, stated that the failure to take feasible precautions to minimize civilian harm suggests a disregard for international obligations.

In Niloufar, an attack on March 1 killed at least 20 people during evening hours when local restaurants and shops were crowded. Similarly, a March 9 strike in Resalat decimated a residential building housing families, alongside a nearby Basij battalion facility. Satellite imagery and verified video evidence confirm the destruction of multiple civilian objects, with blast impacts reaching well beyond intended military targets. Amnesty International is now urging an independent, transparent investigation into these actions, citing the principle of proportionality, which prohibits attacks where anticipated military advantage is outweighed by civilian harm.
