Udaipur's Zinc City Marathon Draws Record Crowd of 9,700 Runners

A surging crowd of 9,700 athletes descended upon Udaipur this weekend for the third Vedanta Zinc City Half Marathon, marking a 45% participation jump from last year. Runners from 27 states and six countries navigated a scenic course set against the Aravalli ranges and the shores of Fateh Sagar Lake.

The event, branded as 'India's Most Beautiful Marathon,' continues to elevate Udaipur’s profile as a destination for sports tourism. Participants competed across half-marathon, 10 km, and 5 km distances, joined by local community members in a dedicated Champions Race. For the victors, the finish line brought more than just titles: every finisher earned a medal cast from Hindustan Zinc’s own 99.99% pure zinc, a nod to the region's ancient industrial heritage.

Mukesh Kumar claimed the men’s half-marathon victory with a time of 1:08:47, while Pooja secured the women’s title in 1:26:09. In the 10 km category, Tehender and Kumari Parru took top honors, clocking 32:01 and 36:49 respectively. Beyond the competition, the event served as a platform for the #RunForZeroHunger initiative, drawing support from corporate teams, senior citizens, and athletes from across the globe, including representatives from Sweden, Italy, Japan, Indonesia, and Kenya.
