Southerland Communities Takes Over Rockport's The Reserve

Located on the Lamar Peninsula adjacent to Goose Island State Park, the community currently houses 120 private residences. The development is defined by its direct access to the Aransas Bay system, with most properties featuring private backyard docks. Beyond the homes, the site includes a 500-foot fishing pier, resort-style amenities, and over two miles of boardwalks winding through protected wetlands.

Southerland Communities, led by Jay Patterson and Dan Mullins, intends to expand the site, which still has approximately half of its land available for future development. The new owners plan to invest in additional canals and waterfront homesites. For Patterson and Mullins, the acquisition is personal; both developers have long-standing ties to the Texas coast and own property in the region. Harry Adams, Managing Director of McCombs Enterprises, noted that the transition to another family-owned firm ensures that the development’s original vision for multi-generational living remains intact.
