IntelliGenome Taps SIMED for CRISPR-TB Distribution in Andean Market

The CRISPR-TB platform identifies Mycobacterium tuberculosis by detecting circulating cell-free DNA in patient blood samples. By securing this partnership, Houston-based IntelliGenome gains immediate access to SIMED’s established network of hospitals and reference laboratories. SIMED, founded in 1985, is now tasked with managing the regulatory filing process to introduce the technology to the Ecuadorian healthcare system.

Kurt Wehrle, Vice President of Partnerships at IntelliGenome, noted that SIMED’s specific focus on molecular diagnostics made them the primary candidate for the expansion. For SIMED, the agreement bolsters a diagnostics portfolio that already serves public health institutions throughout the region. Abelardo Cruces, General Laboratory and Biosciences Business Manager at SIMED, stated the technology aligns with the firm’s commitment to integrating advanced molecular tools into local laboratory workflows.
