Montana Contractor Secures Federal Trademark for Handy-Remodeler Brand

After decades of operating under his own name, Columbia Falls contractor T.J. Ward has secured federal trademark registration for his business, Handy-Remodeler LLC. The move grants the small-scale remodeling firm exclusive nationwide rights to its branding, elevating its status beyond typical state-level protections for local contracting outfits.

Ward, who launched his contracting career in 1980, sought the federal designation after consulting with an intellectual property attorney. Unlike the state-level filings common among small businesses, this federal approval allows the company to utilize the registered trademark symbol across all 50 states. The registration covers the company’s name, specific slogan, and logo.

Based in the Flathead Valley since 2018, the firm maintains a niche focus on residential remodeling and handyman services, particularly bathroom renovations. Ward emphasizes a focused business model that prioritizes individual client attention by taking on only one project at a time. Outside of his business operations, he remains active in the local community through volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity.
