The platform functions as an integrated ecosystem, combining detailed anatomical digital twins with specialized software for visualization and decision-making. Unlike traditional crash test dummies, these digital models provide granular data on how various occupant types respond during a collision. This shift toward simulation is increasingly necessary as global safety regulations and consumer rating programs place a higher premium on sophisticated, early-stage testing.
Fabien Dumont, Chief Technology Officer at Autoliv, noted that the transition to virtual environments allows engineers to optimize safety performance before a single prototype is built. While the company intends to maintain physical crash testing as a cornerstone of its process, the HBM suite serves as a high-speed complement that reduces lead times and improves cost efficiency. Following the initial integration with Toyota, Autoliv plans a wider industry rollout of the platform throughout 2026.
