Rainbow Debuts Digital Twin Supermarket in Shenzhen

Chinese retailer Rainbow has launched its inaugural Store Digital Twin location at the Shahe sp@ce supermarket in Shenzhen. Developed alongside Hanshow and Lingzhi Digital Technology, the facility integrates real-time operational data with AI-driven infrastructure, marking a shift toward data-centric management in the company’s physical retail network.

The Nanshan District store serves as a pilot for Rainbow’s "City • Garden • Food Hall" concept, spanning nine distinct lifestyle zones. The infrastructure relies on a network of over 17,000 IoT devices, which feed into a centralized system to provide granular visibility into inventory levels, shelf status, and customer movement. By utilizing Hanshow’s Nebular Ultra electronic shelf labels, the store enables centimetre-level product positioning and interactive service points, allowing shoppers to access product traceability and promotional content directly at the shelf edge.

Backend operations are managed by Lingzhi’s proprietary Bailingniao AI model, which generates sales forecasts and optimizes replenishment tasks. For customers, the experience is mediated by the Hanshow NexConnect Smart Cart, which acts as a digital guide for navigation and checkout services. According to Xiao Zhanglin, Chairman at Rainbow Digital Commercial, the transition aims to automate routine tasks, freeing staff to focus on direct customer engagement. Hanshow’s involvement in the project follows the technology provider’s recent recognition in the RTIH Retail Technology Hot 100 list, highlighting the industry's growing reliance on digital-physical convergence.
