Ian McClure joins Marks & Spencer in technology leadership role

After a seven-year tenure at Co-op, Ian McClure has transitioned to Marks & Spencer Technology. Stepping into the role of Head of Software Engineering, McClure joins the retailer following an extended summer break, marking his return to the professional sphere with a focus on shaping the company's future engineering capabilities.

McClure previously served as Principal Technology Delivery Manager for SAP Operations at Co-op. In a statement regarding his new position, he expressed enthusiasm for joining the organization during a pivotal moment in its digital evolution. He noted that his immediate priorities include working alongside the internal team to build technology that provides tangible benefits to both store colleagues and customers.

His appointment follows a period of reflection after his departure from Co-op earlier this month. McClure indicated that his time away provided a necessary recharge, leaving him energized for the challenges of his new mandate at M&S. The move is part of a broader trend of executive shifts within the UK retail technology sector as firms look to bolster their digital infrastructure.
