Calum Johns Tapped to Lead CRM and Loyalty at McDonald's UK

McDonald’s UK has appointed Calum Johns as its new Head of CRM, Loyalty, Partnerships and Social. A veteran of the retail and hospitality sectors, Johns arrives from Holland & Barrett to oversee the fast-food giant’s digital engagement strategies as the company pivots toward more insight-led, culturally resonant storytelling.

Johns brings a wealth of industry experience to the role, having previously served as Head of Loyalty at Holland & Barrett. His career history includes significant tenures at major brands such as Costa Coffee, Subway, and InterContinental Hotels Group. In a social media update marking his first month at the company, Johns expressed enthusiasm for the new challenge, noting that he has already begun engaging with the firm’s leadership team and franchisees to shape the brand's future direction.

His arrival follows a broader shift in the company's communication strategy earlier this year, which saw actor Stephen Graham become the new voice of the brand. This move, aimed at strengthening connections with younger audiences while maintaining cross-generational appeal, aligns with the company's push for a more culture-first approach. By integrating fresh leadership and recognizable voices, the organization is looking to build on its legacy while ensuring its marketing remains familiar and contemporary in an increasingly competitive retail landscape.
