Bobby Ross Avila: The Architect Behind Usher’s Biggest Stages

Avila’s career trajectory began long before he became a fixture in stadium production. A child prodigy who began performing at age three, he was signed to RCA Records by 12, eventually touring as an opening act for New Kids on the Block. Transitioning from a front-facing artist to a studio powerhouse, he formed the production duo The Avila Brothers alongside his sibling, IZ. Their partnership with industry legends Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis opened the door to a pivotal collaboration with Usher, resulting in six tracks on the 'Confessions' album.

Today, Avila’s influence extends across the entire performance experience. As the musical director, he manages the complex logistics of blending two distinct catalogs while maintaining the individual identity of both Usher and Chris Brown. Beyond the technical demands of arranging sets and crafting transitions, he remains a visible presence, performing nightly with the band and carving out his own moments in the spotlight. Regarding the current tour, Avila describes the production as a unique, three-and-a-half-hour immersion that feels fleeting despite its length. With the tour underway, he is also preparing for the release of his solo project, 'Return of the Gentleman,' featuring the lead single 'Lucky Fella.'
