IFA 2026: The Shift Toward Intelligent Household Energy Ecosystems

“The energy transition is increasingly becoming part of everyday life, with households taking a more active role in generating, storing and managing their own energy,” stated Thomas Seltmann of BSW-Solar during a panel at IFA 2026, where industry leaders gathered to address the evolution of smart home power infrastructure.

The discussion, titled "Energy. Value. Future.," brought together representatives from BLUETTI, Shelly Group, and Flatpeak to examine the convergence of solar technology, energy storage, and artificial intelligence. Participants argued that the industry must move beyond standalone products toward integrated, intelligent systems that function seamlessly within the home.

Mircho Mirev of Shelly Group emphasized that the next phase of development relies on open integration standards and reliable signal exchange between devices. This sentiment was echoed by Tom Hibbard of Flatpeak, who noted that hardware efficiency is limited without access to real-time market data. By connecting storage systems to live tariff signals, households can automate charging cycles to prioritize cost-effectiveness and cleaner power consumption.

Tristan Rayner of pv magazine highlighted the educational shift occurring for consumers, noting that the integration of storage and solar often provides a "lightbulb moment" regarding energy independence. As the sector matures, the panel concluded that the focus must shift toward creating practical safety frameworks, such as the plug-in solar standards established in late 2025, to ensure long-term scalability and consumer trust.
