GeoComm and Map I.T. Partner to Digitize Building Floorplans

St. Cloud-based GeoComm and Charleston’s Map I.T. have launched a collaborative service aimed at converting static building records into structured indoor GIS data. By integrating reality capture with public safety-grade mapping standards, the partnership seeks to streamline the transition from paper floorplans and CAD files to operational digital environments.

Organizations frequently struggle to utilize building information trapped in PDFs, scanned images, or legacy CAD files. These fragmented formats often fail to integrate with modern safety and operational software, creating a bottleneck for facility management and emergency response teams. The new collaboration targets this friction by combining Map I.T.’s expertise in LiDAR laser scanning and 3D modeling with GeoComm’s established framework for location intelligence.

Nate Ekdahl, Director of Services Strategy at GeoComm, noted that a singular delivery model rarely satisfies the diverse requirements of indoor mapping projects. Instead, the partnership adopts a flexible approach, matching specific technical resources to the scale and complexity of individual sites. Zachary Jaffe, CEO of Map I.T., added that this union of reality capture and public safety knowledge ensures that the final digital assets remain actionable for high-stakes environments. The initiative allows clients to scale mapping across entire campuses while maintaining consistent data quality across the project lifecycle.
