2027 Kia Telluride Secures IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Rating

The 2027 Kia Telluride has achieved the 2026 TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, marking a significant milestone for the second-generation flagship SUV. This recognition highlights the vehicle's structural integrity and advanced protective systems under the institute's latest, more rigorous testing protocols.

To earn the highest rating, the Telluride—specifically models built after June 2026—demonstrated superior performance across stringent crash tests, including small and moderate overlap front impacts and side collisions. The current IIHS criteria emphasize rear-seat passenger protection and sophisticated crash avoidance technology, requiring vehicles to maintain high standards in both pedestrian detection and vehicle-to-vehicle prevention systems.

SeungKyu (Sean) Yoon, president and CEO of Kia North America and Kia America, stated that safety remains fundamental to the Telluride's identity. Beyond its structural advancements, the redesigned SUV features a more rigid body frame and a comprehensive suite of 10 standard airbags, including a new front-row center airbag. The vehicle also integrates modern driver assistance technology, such as Hands on Detection and refined Lane Following Assist 2.

This award expands Kia's current portfolio of top-rated vehicles, joining the K4, EV9, Sorento, and Sportage in the 2026 TSP+ category. The Telluride, which now offers a turbo-hybrid powertrain capable of 329 horsepower, continues to serve as a cornerstone of the brand's lineup as it transitions into its second generation.
