FirstEnergy Appoints Jon Dormo to Lead Generation Expansion

To address surging electricity demand, FirstEnergy Corp. has appointed industry veteran Jon Dormo as its new Vice President of Generation Project Development. Reporting to regional president Chris Beam, Dormo will oversee the planning and construction of new power facilities to ensure long-term reliability and affordability for the company’s regional customer base.

Dormo arrives with nearly two decades of experience in engineering, project management, and strategic planning. Before joining FirstEnergy, he served as Managing Director of Projects at American Electric Power, where he oversaw the siting and construction of major capital generation initiatives. His background spans a diverse portfolio of energy infrastructure, including gas-fired generation, wind, and solar facilities.

His primary focus will involve evaluating and advancing large-scale energy projects, such as the proposed Maidsville Energy Center. Currently awaiting approval from the Public Service Commission of West Virginia, the project includes a 1,200-megawatt natural gas plant and 70 megawatts of solar capacity. Dormo will navigate regulatory hurdles, engineering contracts, and stakeholder collaborations to integrate these assets into the company’s existing fleet. A licensed Professional Engineer, he holds a degree from Ohio University and an MBA from Capital University.
