InnovHeart Marks First US Saturn TMVR Implant in CASSINI Study

An 86-year-old patient at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center has become the first person in the United States to receive the Saturn Transseptal TMVR system. This procedure, performed on August 25, signals a critical expansion of the company’s global clinical testing program into the American market.

The surgery, led by Dr. Torsten P. Vahl, utilized a percutaneous, transseptal approach to place the device within the native mitral valve. The medical team reported an excellent hemodynamic result, successfully eliminating the patient’s severe mitral regurgitation. This milestone brings the total number of patients treated under the global CASSINI program to 15, building upon two years of clinical data gathered from European subjects.

InnovHeart developed the Saturn system specifically to mitigate common TMVR complications, such as anatomical variability and left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction. Data from the European cohort shows consistent performance, with no procedural mortality and 100% of patients achieving a reduction of mitral regurgitation to mild or less. Dr. Vahl, who serves as the principal investigator for the U.S. study, noted that the system's ability to address these historical technical hurdles remains a primary focus of the ongoing evaluation. The device remains strictly investigational and is not yet available for commercial use.
