The honorees—Cedric Gladney-Porter, Hector Gomez, and Chandra Hawkins-Black—worked alongside certified counselors to reverse significant financial hardship. Cedric Gladney-Porter rebuilt his foundation after a devastating house fire by partnering with OnTrack WNC, where he managed back taxes and established strict household budgeting habits. Hector Gomez tackled $21,000 in credit card debt following a divorce, utilizing a Debt Management Plan through American Financial Solutions to clear his balance early. He now works in the banking sector, leveraging his experience to maintain a debt-free lifestyle.
Chandra Hawkins-Black reclaimed her independence after escaping financial abuse, completing a Debt Management Plan with Money Management International in just 30 months. Her recovery included a marked increase in her credit score and the successful construction of a new home. Mike Croxson, CEO of the NFCC, noted that these stories demonstrate the tangible results of expert financial guidance. These individuals now serve as advocates for personal agency, with Hawkins-Black documenting her recovery through her platform, Black Sheep Home.
