Hitachi Energy partners with Daikin to localize green gas production

The transition to SF6-free technology is a central pillar of Hitachi Energy’s EconiQ portfolio. While sulfur hexafluoride has long been the industry standard for insulation due to its performance, it carries a global warming potential 24,300 times greater than CO2. By utilizing C4-FN, the company reports a 99 percent reduction in CO2-equivalent emissions without sacrificing reliability or footprint.

This move addresses the mounting pressure on global utilities to modernize power grids while lowering their environmental footprint. With over 4,000 orders already logged across 40 countries, Hitachi Energy is diversifying its manufacturing footprint to avoid reliance on Asian supply lines. Markus Heimbach, CEO of the company’s High Voltage Products division, noted that the German facility provides the necessary resilience to keep pace with rapid adoption. For Daikin, the deal leverages its century-long chemical expertise to support long-term sustainability targets, marking a critical step in scaling the production of climate-friendly grid components.
