The partnership leverages GreyOrange’s AI-powered platform to provide real-time visibility into product movement. By utilizing sensor-agnostic technology, including overhead and handheld RFID readers, the system allows store associates to locate items with precision to within three to five feet. This data feeds into a digital heat map, identifying which products are selling quickly and which are being abandoned in fitting rooms, enabling staff to optimize shelf replenishment and improve customer service.
Akash Gupta, CEO of GreyOrange, noted that the collaboration has been instrumental in refining their physical AI solutions to meet the needs of high-volume retail. H&M’s involvement began in 2021 with the implementation of the GreyMatter warehouse orchestration platform at a West Coast distribution center. Following that initial success, the retailer extended the technology to further North American facilities before the current rollout of gStore in storefronts worldwide.
David Pino, Head of Emerging Technology at H&M, emphasized that the goal is to bridge the gap between fulfillment operations and the customer experience. By aligning inventory flows with store workflows, the retailer aims to handle the complexities of modern fashion retail more effectively. GreyOrange now reports that its technology is active in more than 3,800 retail locations globally, having managed approximately 200 million inventory items since the inception of these deployments.
