Norwegian Cruise Line Unveils Great Tides Waterpark in The Bahamas

Scene: Under the Bahamian sun, a ceremonial ribbon was cut to mark the completion of Great Tides, a sprawling six-acre waterpark on Great Stirrup Cay. The event, attended by government officials and industry partners, served as a high-energy preview of the massive expansion before the site opens to the public on September 4, 2026.

The new attraction serves as the centerpiece of Norwegian Cruise Line’s 270-acre private island, featuring a 170-foot-tall tower that houses eight distinct slides. Among the facility's most ambitious additions are the Caribbean’s first cliff jumps—offering drops of 10 and 15 feet—and a 800-foot-long river equipped with an immersive tunnel and a swim-up bar. The park also includes a family-focused area called Splash Cay, which is outfitted with an oversized tipping bucket and mini-slides for younger travelers.

During the preview, executives from Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, including CEO John Chidsey and President Marc Kazlauskas, joined U.S. Ambassador to The Bahamas Herschel Walker to tour the site. The expansion is part of a broader push by the cruise operator to upgrade its private island infrastructure, which now features a new pier capable of docking two ships simultaneously. Guests arriving on the Norwegian Luna this September will be the first to access the full range of amenities, including new dining options like Low Tide Smoke and Catch of the Cay, alongside existing island favorites.
