Rush University Partners with nference to Build AI Research Platform

The initiative marks the first time an Illinois-based academic medical center has integrated nference’s data infrastructure. The platform is designed to consolidate fragmented information—ranging from clinical notes and genomic data to radiology imaging and laboratory reports—into a computable format. By keeping the data hosted within Rush’s own environment, the system allows researchers to perform observational studies while maintaining strict stewardship over sensitive information.

Matt Walsh, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Rush, stated the goal is to provide scientists with the necessary tools to translate complex patient data into actionable clinical improvements. Venky Soundararajan, co-founder and chief scientific officer of nference, noted that their federated architecture will synthesize years of patient history into a foundation for scientific research. As the platform matures, both organizations intend to leverage this infrastructure for next-generation clinical trials and the development of evidence for emerging therapies.
