Hungry Howie’s deploys Cartwheel AI to overhaul delivery operations

Hungry Howie’s Pizza is integrating Cartwheel’s AI-driven delivery platform across its network of nearly 500 locations. The rollout, following a successful pilot, aims to unify in-house and third-party delivery management into a single, automated system, with full implementation expected across the chain by the second quarter of 2027.

The partnership marks a shift in how the pizza chain manages logistics, moving away from fragmented processes toward a centralized digital stack. By utilizing Cartwheel’s Hybrid Delivery technology, franchisees gain a granular view of fleet performance, allowing them to balance in-house resources with third-party support from DoorDash Drive. Automated rules now dictate order routing based on proximity, order value, and real-time driver availability, reducing the manual coordination previously required by store operators.

Beyond efficiency, the system provides Hungry Howie’s with greater control over the customer experience. Even when third-party couriers handle the transit, the platform ensures that branded tracking, promotional banners, and feedback requests remain consistent. Moe Shrikian, Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Hungry Howie’s, noted that the move is intended to maintain direct relationships with guests while leveraging the flexibility of external delivery networks. As part of the Toast partner ecosystem, the software integrates directly into existing restaurant technology, positioning the brand to adopt future fulfillment models, including autonomous delivery.
