Documentary on Alec Baldwin’s Rust Trial Set for Theatrical Release

The documentary, titled The Trial of Alec Baldwin, documents the tragedy from the initial incident in October 2021 through the actor’s high-profile court appearances. Abramorama acquired the film for distribution, planning a rollout that begins October 1 at New York’s Village East by Angelika, followed by a Los Angeles premiere on October 15 at Laemmle Monica. The footage includes behind-the-scenes material from the set, police interrogations, and courtroom proceedings intended to examine how the judicial system and public opinion process such a high-profile case.

Karol Martesko-Fenster, CEO of Abramorama, noted that the film avoids shying away from the discomfort of the situation, aiming to explore how blame is assigned in real time. Kennedy and producing partner Mark Bailey described the work as an essential look at the modern state of the legal system. For his part, Baldwin has expressed the heavy personal toll of the event, suggesting in recent appearances that the ordeal took a decade off his life and pushed him toward considering retirement from acting. Meanwhile, the film’s director, Joel Souza, has openly questioned his own role in the project, admitting that he regrets writing the film and characterizing the chain of events leading to the shooting as a series of poor decisions.
