Dr. Kissela returns to the college, where he completed his medical training, to oversee strategic initiatives across the Milwaukee, Central Wisconsin, and Green Bay campuses. His mandate includes strengthening research output, ensuring the financial sustainability of the institution, and refining the education of the next generation of physicians. He joins the college after serving as Executive Vice Dean at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where he led the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute.
President and CEO Shekar N. Kurpad cited Kissela’s experience in navigating complex academic health systems as a primary factor in his selection. For his part, Kissela expressed an ambition to transform the college into a highly connected, AI-enabled health system. He emphasized a commitment to removing geographic barriers to patient outcomes and accelerating the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical practice.
