The sponsorship was finalized at Harbor Park during an August 19 School Supply Drive Night, where BayPort executives Jennifer Coyne and Ira Williams presented the funds to Chief Academic Officer Dr. Kipp Rogers. This capital will primarily fuel the district's Family Empowerment Series, a quarterly program now entering its third year. The series provides parents and caregivers with financial education sessions and practical resources to improve family stability.
Beyond financial literacy, the partnership supports two youth empowerment conferences and various student-led projects focused on social and emotional well-being. BayPort CEO Jim Mears noted that the investment reflects the organization’s century-long history in the region. Dr. Rogers emphasized that the contribution extends the district's reach beyond traditional classroom instruction, allowing for deeper engagement with families throughout the Newport News community.
