SkinMedica Expands Regenerative Line with New Barrier Cream

Seventy percent of U.S. skincare users now prioritize barrier protection, driving a shift toward restorative treatments. Responding to this demand, Allergan Aesthetics has launched the Barrier Calming Cream, a new addition to the SkinMedica portfolio designed to fortify the skin's moisture layer and improve overall resilience.

The new moisturizer utilizes a combination of a Calcium Strengthening Complex and a Botanical Calming Complex. According to company research, the formula addresses skin stress by rebalancing the barrier with calcium while using mondo grass root to soothe visible redness. Clinical testing indicates that users experienced a 30% reduction in skin dryness after two weeks of consistent application.

Prithwiraj Maitra, vice president of global skincare R&D at Allergan Aesthetics, noted that a compromised barrier limits the efficacy of other skincare ingredients, including retinol. By restoring this foundation, the cream aims to improve tolerance for more aggressive treatments. Alongside this launch, the brand introduced the HA5 Hydra Collagen Facial Mist, which features five forms of hyaluronic acid and vegan collagen. This mist is marketed for mid-day hydration and has shown a 31% increase in hydration levels during clinical trials.

Both products are now available through licensed medical providers and the official SkinMedica website. The Barrier Calming Cream is priced at $140, while the facial mist retails for $58.
