Garmin Debuts SmartDrive Autopilot for Sailboats

Designed for vessels with a maximum displacement of 33,000 pounds, the system minimizes external components and cabling to facilitate easier retrofitting. The actuator integrates directly into the NMEA 2000 network, allowing seamless communication with existing Garmin multifunction displays. According to Susan Lyman, vice president of global consumer sales and marketing, the hardware was engineered to provide a quieter, more durable experience in demanding offshore conditions.

The hardware is available as a standalone actuator for $3,499.99 or as part of the Reactor 40 Sail Corepack, which starts at $4,499.99. The full bundle includes a 9-axis AHRS control unit and a 5-inch GHC 50 touchscreen display. Owners can also manage steering through compatible devices, including the APK 10 keypad, wireless remotes, and select quatix marine smartwatches.
