Walmart Expands Subway Delivery Beyond Store Footprint

Walmart is broadening its restaurant delivery partnership with Subway, moving beyond the physical confines of its own retail locations. Four months after a limited launch, the retail giant is now enabling customers to order meals from Subway locations situated outside of Walmart stores while maintaining integrated Express Delivery options.

The expansion follows a successful pilot program that allowed shoppers to bundle Subway meals with grocery and household orders for delivery in 30 minutes or less. According to Greg Cathey, SVP of Digital Fulfilment Transformation, the initiative has fundamentally altered shopping habits, with nearly 65% of restaurant orders paired with essential goods. Data indicates that the service is successfully driving broader adoption of Walmart’s Express Delivery platform; one in five customers utilizing the dual-order feature is a first-time user of the service, with a 30% retention rate among those users within 30 days. This shift underscores a broader strategy to position Walmart as a destination for both immediate meal consumption and routine shopping in a single transaction.
