Goldfish Swim School Named a Top Recession-Resistant Franchise

Goldfish Swim School has secured a spot on Franchise Business Review’s 2026 list of Top Recession-Resistant Franchises, marking its third time receiving the distinction. The ranking, which evaluates business stability during economic volatility, distinguishes the brand among 50 organizations selected from a pool of 330 industry competitors.

The selection is based on independent research involving 29,000 franchisees, who rated their experiences across 33 key benchmarks, including training, financial opportunity, and franchisor support. According to Michelle Rowan, president of Franchise Business Review, the honored brands consistently outperformed industry benchmarks by 10% to 40% in owner satisfaction ratings.

For the Troy, Michigan-based company, this resilience stems from a standardized curriculum known as The Science of SwimPlay, which provides water safety and swimming instruction for children aged four months to 12 years. CEO and co-founder Chris McCuiston attributes the brand's stability to the dedication of local operators who maintain consistent service levels for families regardless of broader economic conditions.

Since launching its first franchised site in 2009, Goldfish has expanded to over 200 locations across North America, with another 150 schools currently in development. The firm continues to lean on its established model to attract operators, maintaining a presence in both major metropolitan markets and suburban communities.
