The new product utilizes passive radiative cooling, a process that reflects solar radiation while emitting thermal energy through the mid-infrared atmospheric window. By bypassing the need for refrigerants or electricity, the technology aims to reduce the load on mechanical air conditioning systems, which are currently struggling to keep pace with record-breaking temperatures across the continent. According to the Copernicus Climate Change Service, Western Europe experienced an exceptionally intense heatwave in May 2026, with temperatures peaking 10°C above seasonal averages.
Prof. Martin Zhu, CEO of i2Cool, argues that passive cooling must become a core component of regional heat-resilience strategies as extreme weather becomes more frequent. While the company’s previous solutions focused on windows and rooftops, the addition of CorroCool addresses the vulnerability of outdoor electrical and metal assets. Internal data from the company suggests that their broader range of cooling materials can lower rooftop surface temperatures by up to 42.9°C and reduce overall air-conditioning energy consumption by as much as 42%.
