Interactive 3D commerce drives consumer engagement in home retail

Interactive 3D technology has become a cornerstone of modern consumer research, transforming how shoppers plan and purchase complex home goods. A new benchmark study from 3D Cloud, analyzing over $10 billion in annual sales, reveals that visualization tools are now critical for conversion in the home furnishings and improvement sectors.

The Q2 2026 index, which draws on anonymized data from more than 40 retailers across the US, Europe, and APAC, highlights a shift toward project-based shopping. Room planning tools emerged as a standout feature, with users averaging nearly 20-minute sessions and achieving a 29.7% project save rate. These figures suggest that consumers increasingly rely on digital visualization to bridge the gap between inspiration and final purchase.

Configurable products also saw notable traction. Modular configurators reported a 16% add-to-cart rate alongside a 2.2% purchase conversion rate. According to Beck Besecker, CEO and co-founder of 3D Cloud, these tools provide retailers with a necessary framework to measure engagement and identify opportunities to improve business results. While 360-degree spins and augmented reality continue to build confidence in high-consideration purchases, the data confirms that immersive digital experiences are no longer optional for retailers navigating the complexities of omnichannel commerce.
