Rosalind Franklin University Appoints Narayanan Parameswaran as Research Chief

Narayanan Parameswaran will assume the role of executive vice president for research at Rosalind Franklin University on December 2, 2026. Bringing a background in physiology and translational science from Michigan State University, he is tasked with steering the institution’s research enterprise and expanding its network of academic and industry partnerships.

Dr. Parameswaran currently serves as the senior associate dean for research at Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine, where he manages research activities across eight campuses and oversees a portfolio of approximately $130 million in sponsored awards. His transition to North Chicago follows a tenure marked by leadership in faculty development, infrastructure planning, and the navigation of complex funding environments. RFU President Aron Sousa highlighted Parameswaran’s ability to bridge the gap between academic discovery and practical application in healthcare and community settings as a primary driver for the appointment.

The incoming executive vice president maintains an active research profile focused on inflammation, innate immunity, and gut-bone interactions, with over 95 peer-reviewed publications to his credit. At RFU, he will oversee the university’s broader research strategy, including the Innovation and Research Park and the Helix 51 bioscience incubator. Janice Urban will remain in the role on an interim basis until Parameswaran officially joins the faculty in December.
