The expansion at the Gambrinus site includes a newly commissioned bloom reheat furnace and roller furnace, designed to sharpen the company's output of specialty steel. These assets are intended to modernize production for artillery and mortar shell applications, a role Metallus has filled for the U.S. Army for over three decades.
Mike Williams, CEO of Metallus, joined Colonel Alicia Johnson of the U.S. Army and Representative Michael Rulli to inaugurate the equipment. The project, backed by significant Army funding and support from JobsOhio, aims to improve manufacturing flexibility and quality. By integrating these systems, the facility seeks to reduce dependence on external supply chains for critical defense materials, reinforcing a century-long legacy of domestic steel production.
