Calamos Raises $248 Million Through Preferred Share Placements

Six Calamos closed-end funds have secured $248.25 million in new capital through private placements of mandatory redeemable preferred shares. The move, designed to bolster financial leverage across the firm's portfolio, drew backing from institutional investors and received an AA- rating from the Kroll Bond Rating Agency.

The issuance covers two distinct tiers of preferred equity. Series H shares, maturing in five years, carry an initial dividend rate of 6.19%, while Series I shares, set for a three-year term, offer a 6.03% rate. Nomura Securities International and UBS Securities served as the co-placement agents for the transaction.

The capital injection spans six funds, with the Calamos Strategic Total Return Fund (CSQ) receiving the largest portion at $151 million. Other participants include the Calamos Convertible Opportunities and Income Fund (CHI), the Calamos Convertible and High Income Fund (CHY), the Calamos Global Dynamic Income Fund (CHW), the Calamos Global Total Return Fund (CGO), and the Calamos Dynamic Convertible and Income Fund (CCD).
