The test, conducted in partnership with the UK-based aerospace firm Sent Into Space, saw an iPhone 17 Pro released from a high-altitude balloon at the Esrange Space Center. During the 25-minute descent, the case faced temperatures plummeting to -60°C and atmospheric pressure roughly 1% of that found at sea level. Upon recovery in the remote Swedish terrain, the device remained fully functional, capable of making calls and capturing images, confirming the efficacy of the case's multi-layered, air-cushioned internal structure.

Beyond the stunt, the record serves as a proof-of-concept for the manufacturer's commitment to mono-material engineering. CEO Eric Wang stated that the goal was to demonstrate that high-performance, impact-resistant protection does not require complex, non-recyclable multi-material designs. By utilizing a 100% recyclable structure, the company aims to challenge industry norms that prioritize durability at the expense of circularity. The AirX case, which features internal damage-resistance systems and pressure-relief chambers, has already received design recognition, including the 2026 iF Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award, for balancing its industrial-grade performance with a sustainable manufacturing philosophy.
