Dollywood to Remain Open Following Death of Dolly Parton

Dollywood to Remain Open Following Death of Dolly Parton

Instead of observing a period of silence, the Pigeon Forge theme park is honoring its founder’s final wish by keeping its gates open. The decision reflects the country music icon’s lifelong philosophy that the show must go on, prioritizing the joy and shared experiences she cultivated for four decades.

The Dollywood family confirmed the death of the 80-year-old singer on Tuesday, August 25, following recent health complications. Despite her passing, the park’s leadership team emphasized that operations will proceed as normal starting Wednesday, August 26. Park president Eugene Naughton stated that while the staff mourns their 'Dreamer-in-Chief,' they are committed to carrying her light forward through the music and hospitality that defined her vision for the Great Smoky Mountains attraction.

Parton’s influence on the park began in 1986, transforming the site into a major destination that remained rooted in Appalachian culture. Her commitment to the park remained firm even during her final weeks; though health issues, including dizziness and dehydration, forced her to miss the recent opening of the 'NightFlight Expedition' attraction, she insisted the event continue without her. To honor her legacy, the organization is encouraging fans to support the Imagination Library, the literacy program she established in 1995 to provide free books to children worldwide.
