Dolly Parton's Final Days: A Life Behind the Rhinestones

Country music icon Dolly Parton spent her final four days in a hospital before passing away on August 25 at age 80. Her death follows a difficult year marked by the loss of her husband, Carl Dean, and a series of health complications that had forced her to step back from public appearances.

Parton was admitted to an undisclosed facility on August 21, the very day she spoke publicly about neglecting her own well-being to care for Dean, who died in March 2025. In her final interview, the singer admitted she had been managing ongoing health issues that she previously ignored. Just one week before her hospitalization, she missed a grand opening at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, citing dizziness and dehydration under medical advice. These setbacks followed the cancellation of her Las Vegas residency in May 2026.

Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, confirmed the news in a pre-arranged video announcement. Serving as her head of security for over two decades, Seaver noted that Parton had requested he be the one to break the news years before her passing. He shared a final, characteristic request from the star: after a lifetime of wearing heavy stage costumes, she wished to rest in a bed of plush cotton. While the official cause of death remains undisclosed, her family has pledged to maintain her creative legacy, describing her as a woman who "farmed songs and happiness" with the same dedication her father applied to the soil.
