Uber Eats launches robot delivery in Finland

Customers in central Helsinki will now be able to track their orders via the Uber Eats app as the robots navigate city streets. According to an Uber Eats spokesperson, the fleet has already undergone testing to ensure performance during challenging Finnish winter conditions, allowing the machines to operate alongside the existing human courier network.

This expansion contrasts with recent developments in the UK, where Starship Technologies concluded its own pilot program in Sheffield. Ryan Case, a spokesperson for Starship, stated that the service was paused to review operational data and prioritize commercial viability. While the Sheffield pilot faced incidents of vandalism, the company maintained that the decision to withdraw was a calculated conclusion to the testing phase rather than a reaction to local interference. These shifts highlight the broader industry challenge of balancing autonomous technology with the practical realities of community integration and long-term economic sustainability.
