L2 Aviation and Gotonomi Partner to Secure UAV Connectivity

Uncrewed aerial vehicles operating in remote regions often lose contact when terrestrial networks fail. L2 Aviation and Gotonomi are addressing this gap by integrating compact satellite communications technology into UAV and Advanced Air Mobility platforms, ensuring command and control capabilities persist well beyond the reach of traditional cellular or Wi-Fi infrastructure.

The strategic partnership combines L2 Aviation’s engineering and regulatory certification expertise with Gotonomi’s lightweight communications hardware. By leveraging Viasat’s Velaris satellite ecosystem, the collaboration aims to provide a unified path for operators to install and certify systems that maintain telemetry and mission-critical data links in isolated environments.

Tony Bailey, President and COO of L2 Aviation, noted that connectivity, aircraft integration, and regulatory approval have historically been treated as fragmented challenges. This initiative aims to consolidate those processes into a single aircraft-level solution. Matthew Hill, General Manager at Gotonomi, added that the integration is specifically targeted at sectors like energy and infrastructure, where operators require reliable connectivity to scale missions in difficult-to-access areas.

Beyond simply providing hardware, the partnership focuses on the technical hurdles of Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations. L2 Aviation, which joined the Viasat Velaris ecosystem in May 2026, will manage the engineering and certification requirements needed to deploy these systems. This approach is intended to transition UAVs from localized tools to platforms capable of sustained, high-reliability operations across vast distances.
