Advocacy Group Calls for Third Impeachment of President Trump

The pro-democracy organization Free Speech for People is calling for a new impeachment investigation into President Donald Trump, citing what it describes as a systematic pattern of ignoring judicial orders and undermining the constitutional checks and balances intended to restrain executive authority.

Since returning to the White House in January, the Trump administration has engaged in a series of direct challenges to the judiciary. The nonprofit highlights three specific instances of non-compliance: the refusal to release $2 billion in foreign aid, the disregard of orders barring the Office of Management and Budget from freezing federal assistance, and the failure of acting OPM Director Charles Ezell to comply with a court-ordered appearance regarding mass personnel terminations.

Legal director Courtney Hostetler argues that this behavior demonstrates an effort to usurp legislative and judicial powers, warning that such actions threaten the stability of the American democratic system. Despite the group’s petition reaching over 250,000 signatures and support from Congressman Al Green, the path toward formal impeachment remains narrow. With both chambers of Congress currently held by Republicans, political momentum for removal is minimal. Even if control shifts in future elections, the group faces the historical hurdle of securing a conviction in the Senate, where Trump has previously been acquitted twice. The organization maintains that the investigation is necessary regardless of the outcome, pointing to a broader list of grievances including the handling of Gaza policy, interference in local government oversight, and alleged corruption during the 2024 campaign.
