SBA and Energy Department Launch Initiative to Bolster Energy Production

SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler and Energy Secretary Chris Wright signed a memorandum in Pennsylvania today, launching the Small Business Investment Company-Energy initiative. The partnership aims to channel private capital into domestic energy infrastructure, targeting sectors from traditional fossil fuels to next-generation nuclear power and critical mineral supply chains.

The initiative aligns the Department of Energy’s strategic technical priorities with the SBA’s existing investment network, which currently manages a $58 billion portfolio. By identifying gaps in the domestic supply chain, the DOE will guide licensed investment funds toward projects essential to grid resilience and national security. This effort mirrors a collaborative model recently established between the SBA and NASA to support aerospace innovation.

Participating funds will target specific focus areas, including baseload power systems, advanced materials, and specialized manufacturing technologies. The program functions as part of a broader federal push to incentivize domestic production and reduce reliance on foreign supply chains. According to Secretary Chris Wright, the collaboration seeks to solidify the domestic manufacturing base while ensuring that small businesses remain the primary engine for energy-related technological breakthroughs.
