Peter Kelland, Head of Retail and Brands at the university, noted that the transition was far from the seamless process described in typical project plans. Before the launch, the store had to undergo rigorous audits to prove its stock accuracy and digital systems were robust enough to handle the influx of online orders. Once the technical hurdles were cleared, the geography of the campus presented a new set of obstacles.
Finding the store’s backdoor among the sprawling university buildings caused early logistical headaches, leading to confused drivers and a flurry of phone calls. After adjusting the map pin with the assistance of Co-op’s Steve Rye and installing new directional signage, the service finally stabilized. Early data suggests the effort was worthwhile, as students are already utilizing the platform for late-night cravings—specifically doughnuts—with the service securing eight five-star reviews within its first few days.
