Hickerson, who was present at the Greenville Airbnb when Panettiere died, has become a focal point of public speculation as the investigation continues. In the resurfaced Instagram clips from May and June, Hickerson is seen imitating a woman who accused him of sounding intoxicated and engaging in a bizarre interaction at a fast-food restaurant. His brother, Zach Hickerson, who discovered the couple after failing to reach them, stated that he and Brian performed CPR and administered Narcan before emergency responders arrived. The presence of the overdose-reversal drug has prompted questions, though officials caution that its use does not confirm an opioid-related cause of death.
The Drug Enforcement Administration is currently assisting the Greenville Police Department and the local coroner in the inquiry. Despite initial dispatch audio mentioning a possible overdose, investigators maintain that no conclusions have been reached. Coroner Mike Ellis reported that the autopsy revealed no visible signs of trauma or foul play, leaving the official cause of death pending toxicology results. Through his attorney, Sloan Ellis, Hickerson has urged the public to refrain from speculation and allow the official investigation to proceed. As the process unfolds, the distinction between Hickerson’s past behavior and the circumstances of Panettiere’s final hours remains a central point of interest for both officials and the public.
