Reynolds took to social media to acknowledge the milestone, sharing a mashup video that cut between Matt Damon’s epic protagonist and the frantic action of a Honda Odyssey minivan. In a nod to the shared name of the film and the family vehicle, the actor congratulated the cast and crew, quipping that the movie is "one helluva car."
The Odyssey’s rise to the top has been driven by a massive appetite for IMAX, with the format accounting for $289 million of its total haul by mid-August. Universal distribution chief Jim Orr attributed the success to Nolan’s reputation for crafting theatrical events that demand a big-screen experience, bolstered by high audience scores and the scarcity of 70mm presentations. While the film has now eclipsed the record-breaking run of Deadpool & Wolverine—which itself made history as the first R-rated film to secure a $200 million domestic opening—Reynolds remains unfazed, continuing his long-standing tradition of using humor to navigate the high-stakes world of Hollywood box office competition.
